Maternelle (TPS-K):

Lower School (1st-5th):

Our early childhood program begins at age 2.5 and uses play-based inquiry to springboard children into our IB Primary Years Programme that begins in Preschool. Students do not need to speak French to start with us in Maternelle.

Our Lower School follows the IB Primary Years Programme in a French immersion setting – helping students build authentic connections, follow their own inquiries, and discover the world.

Middle School (6th-8th):

Extended Learning:

A lot happens outside of the classroom including Early Arrival, Aftercare, Afterschool Explorers, and athletics. ACE Weeks and summer camps are also options when regular classes are not in session.

Our oldest students focus on collaboration and learning through the IB Middle Years Programme. Students with high-level second language skills enter immersion tracks in French, German, Mandarin, or Spanish. Students who are not bilingual join our English-focused International Track. Regardless of their background, all students start a new language in 6th Grade. Both options prepare students for success in high school and far beyond.

ALL ABOUT IMMERSION

Language immersion is more than learning another language. French International uses language as a lens to help students understand other cultures, think with a global perspective, and navigate the broader world around us.


Our students begin learning in a French immersion environment in our Maternelle (early years) program, building the foundation for success in 1st through 5th Grade.


In Middle School, our curriculum is delivered in five languages – French, German, Mandarin, Spanish or English.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) program is a robust academic curriculum that helps students become inquirers and understand the world through untangling complex issues – with a goal to create a better world through intercultural understanding and respect.


French International is the only school in Portland offering an authorized IB program for Preschool through 8th Grade. The IB curriculum is a perfect complement to our language immersion programs – setting our students up for a lifetime of exploration.
