Maternelle (TPS-K):

Lower School (1st-5th):

Our early childhood program begins at age 2.5 and uses play-based inquiry to springboard children into the IB Primary Years Programme that begins in preschool. Students do not need to speak French to start with us in Maternelle.

In Lower School, students follow the IB Primary Years Programme in a French immersion setting – helping them build authentic connections to nature, follow their own inquiries, and discover the world.

Extended Learning:

Childcare runs from 7:30 AM to 6 PM on school days. We offer optional Afterschool Explorers classes and athletics for students to discover new passions and interests, as well as ACE Weeks and Summer Camps during school breaks.

Middle School follows one curriculum in five languages with advanced options in French, German, Mandarin, or Spanish, and an English-focused track for students who are not bilingual. Everyone starts a new language, and all classes focus on collaboration and learning through the IB Middle Years Programme.

Language immersion is more than learning another language. French International uses language as a lens to help students understand other cultures, think with a global perspective, and navigate the broader world around us.

IMMERSION

Our students are learning in a French immersion setting from age 2.5 through 5th grade, building skills and increasing their fluency in reading, writing and speaking along the way.


Students joining Middle School with high proficiency in a second language can choose immersive tracks in French, German, Mandarin, or Spanish. Those with no advanced language background dive into our English-focused International track. Regardless of language experience, all students begin studying a new language.

IB

The International Baccalaureate (IB) program is a robust academic framework that helps students become inquirers and understand the world by untangling complex issues – with a goal to create a better world through intercultural understanding and respect.


French International is the only school in Portland offering an accredited IB program for preschool through 8th grade. The IB framework is a perfect complement to our language immersion programs – setting our students up for a lifetime of exploration.
